Cash for Old Cars
There is a particular kind of car we get called about more than any other around Geelong. It still starts. It still gets to the shops and back. But the rego is due, it needs tyres, something underneath is weeping oil, and the next repair bill is more than the whole car would fetch. It is not a wreck. It has just finished being worth keeping.
At All Geelong Car Removal, we buy old cars across the Geelong region, collect them free of charge from wherever they are parked, and pay by instant bank transfer before we leave. No roadworthy, no listing, no strangers turning up at your house for a test drive. Call 0403 433 113.

The Sums Most People Do in Their Head
Before you decide, it helps to put real numbers on it. Selling an old car privately in Victoria means a certificate of roadworthiness, and paying for the inspection is the easy part. What catches people out is what the inspection finds: tyres under the tread limit, a park brake that will not hold, perished bushes, an exhaust leak, a windscreen chip sitting in the wiper path. Each of those has to be fixed before the certificate is issued.
Then there is the registration to renew if it has lapsed, the photos to take, the listing to write, the messages from people offering half, the ones who arrange a time and never show, and the strangers you are handing your keys to.
For a car worth six thousand dollars that is all worth doing. For a car worth eight hundred that needs twelve hundred of work to pass, it is not. That gap is the tipping point, and it is where we come in.
When We Will Tell You to Sell it Privately Instead
Sometimes people ring us about a car that is genuinely worth more than we would pay for it. A tidy, low kilometre car with rego on it and one cheap fault will do better on Marketplace or Carsales than it will with any wholesale buyer, ours included. If that is your car, we will say so on the phone. We would rather be straight with you than talk you into a sale you feel bad about later.
What Lifts The Price of an Old Car
When you’re looking to sell your car for cash, understanding what impacts your vehicle’s value will help you know what to expect when we provide a quote.
- Whether it runs and drives, even badly.
- How common the model is locally. The more Corollas, Commodores, Hiluxes and Falcons on Geelong roads, the more demand there is for their parts.
- Completeness. Everything still attached, including the alloy wheels, catalytic converter, battery and a set of keys.
- A straight body, even a tired one. Rust through the sills and floor pans pulls the number down.
- Recent money spent. New tyres, a fresh battery, a recent timing belt.
- Time left on the registration, which is worth a refund to you and makes the car easier for us to move.
The Car That Has Not Moved in Years
A lot of what we collect has not turned a wheel since well before the owner stopped intending to fix it. Flat battery, seized brakes, rusted brake lines, four flat tyres, keys long gone, sitting on the nature strip or up the side of the house under a tarp that gave up two winters ago. None of that is a problem. Our trucks are set up for exactly this.
If it is on the nature strip or the street, it is worth acting sooner rather than later. Councils across Greater Geelong do take an interest in unregistered vehicles left on public land, and an unregistered car parked on the road is a compliance issue as well as an eyesore.
Estates, Downsizing And Cars Nobody Has Dealt With
A surprising number of our old car calls come from families sorting out a house rather than owners selling their own car. Someone has moved into care, or passed away, and there is a vehicle in the garage that has not been driven in eighteen months and nobody quite knows what to do with.
We handle these often and try to keep them simple. What we need is authority from whoever is legally entitled to sell the vehicle, which for an estate is usually the executor. Call and explain the situation and we will tell you what to have on hand rather than making you guess. If the family is interstate and someone else is meeting us at the house, say so upfront and we will work around it.
Registration And Plates
Take the plates off before the truck loads the car, then cancel the registration with VicRoads through myVicRoads online or in the app. Plates no longer have to be handed back at a Customer Service Centre.
If there is time left on the rego, claim the refund on the same form. VicRoads asks for supporting evidence, and for an ordinary sale a photo of your plates cut in half is accepted. Hold on to the disposal receipt we give you at pickup as your record of the date the vehicle left your hands.
The refund goes into your bank account, generally within about ten business days, less a $22.10 processing fee and ten per cent of the TAC charge. With a few weeks left it may not be worth claiming. With months left it is real money and most people do not realise they can get it back.
How It Works
- Tell us the make, model, approximate year, the kilometres if you know them, and whether it runs.
- We quote over the phone. Photos help but are rarely essential for an old car in ordinary condition.
- We book a pickup that suits you, usually same day or the next.
- We take a quick look, transfer the money instantly, hand you the receipt, and take the car away.
Offers go up to $9,999 depending on the vehicle. There is no towing charge and no inspection fee.
FAQs
Do I need a roadworthy certificate to sell to you?
No. That requirement applies to private sales of registered vehicles going back on the road.
Will you take a car that is not registered?
Yes. Most of the old cars we buy have expired rego.
How old is too old?
There is no cutoff. Age on its own does not stop a car having weight and usable parts.
Can you pick up from a unit block or a shared driveway?
Usually. Mention the access when you call so we send a truck that fits.
Do you buy vans, utes and 4WDs as well as cars?
Yes, along with SUVs and light commercials.
I have lost the keys. Is that a problem?
No. It is one of the most common things we hear.
Where do you cover?
All of Geelong and the surrounding suburbs, working out of our yard at North Geelong.
Call 0403 433 113 and we will tell you what it is worth.
